Silver Thaw

In January of 2024, Eugene, Oregon was shrouded in a thick layer of ice. This “Silver Thaw” was not the first of it’s kind; Storms like these have plagued the region for decades, but the changing climate has increased the frequency, unpredictability and intensity of the storms. Evidence of Silver Thaws is preserved in the landscape; Felled limbs and split trunks tell the stories of storms long past, blurring the line between victim and perpetrator in environmental violence.

What was your experience of the ice storm? Will that violence be preserved, like in the rings of a tree?
